The Indiana University Alcohol-Drug Information Center (ADIC), an office of the Campus Life Division, is the main information and resource center on alcohol and other drugs for the IU Bloomington community. On campus since 1982, the ADIC serves a diverse population--students, staff, and faculty--with special emphasis on students. Our goal is to help people prevent or respond to alcohol and other drug misuse through information, education, and referral.
The Center's staff also advises the campus chapter of BACCHUS-SADD. This student group works to minimize alcohol and other drug problems on campus through fun and educational programming.
Visitors will find a variety of educational materials in the library, including books, magazines, videos, computer programs, and special topic files for research.
ADIC resources are effective in helping people do research, both for class assignments and to answer personal questions. Especially useful to many visitors are our materials on:
- drinking and driving
- college students and drinking
- adult children of alcoholics
- general drug information
- alcohol and sexual assault
- how to help a friend with a drinking or drug problem
Education
Staff at the ADIC provide education about alcohol and other drugs for the campus by giving talks, fielding questions, and conducting risk reduction seminars. Presentations, tailored to specific needs, are given to many groups.
Anyone with questions and concerns about alcohol and other drugs can contact us in person, over the phone, or by e-mail. Visitors to our library are also welcome to explore Alcohol 101, an interactive, computer based alcohol education program.
Referral
Since the ADIC is connected with many service agencies on campus and in Bloomington, our staff members can discuss and recommend a variety of service options. We maintain a strong working relationship with IU's Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS). CaPS offers confidential help with alcohol and drug-related problems, including making assessments. In addition, we can supply lists and information concerning other local counseling facilities, support groups, and treatment programs.
All IU students, faculty and staff may use the Center's services.
Libby Shultz Alcohol Education Fund
Libby Shultz was an Indiana University student who died in an alcohol-related car crash during her first year of college. In her memory, her family established a fund to help support alcohol education programs for Indiana University students. Today, the Shultz Fund provides valuable financial support to the ADIC and its efforts in providing information about alcohol and other drugs. Contributions to the fund may be sent to the address at the top of the page.
